Have you ever found yourself sitting at home, pondering the meaning of life, when suddenly you were struck by a more urgent question: ”When will Salazon introduce a new bar???” Well, unfortunately for you, we don’t have a new bar to introduce…we have 3 new bars!!!

 

All tomfoolery aside, I’m sure you’re eager to learn more about these bars so I’ll get right to it! All 3 bars are made with 72% organic, fair trade chocolate. Similar to our signature 57% dark chocolate, the new 72% is single-origin, and made using only Hispaniola beans from our partner cocoa farm co-op in the Dominican Republic. This 72% dark chocolate is richer and bolder, but maintains the trademark smoothness of our 57% dark chocolate. To complement the 72% dark chocolate, we have developed 3 new flavors:

 

We carefully selected ingredients for the new flavors that stand up to our bold 72% dark chocolate. For the Sea Salt & Coconut bar, we toast organic flakes of unsweetened coconut from the Philippines to naturally enhance the coconut’s flavor and then top it off with hand-sprinkled sea salt from the coast of Brazil. Next, the Sea Salt & Almond bar blends 3 flavors that were destined for each other. This combination of roasted, all-natural California almonds, dark chocolate, and sea salt is sure to satisfy your sweet and salty craving. Our third bar, Sea Salt & Cayenne, pays tribute to the ancient Mayan tradition of mixing chocolate with hot spices.  This bar has just the right amount of organic cayenne pepper – enough to wake your senses, without setting your mouth on fire!

 

We gotta admit, we had one other motivation for launching this new line – the health benefits! Ever since we introduced our first bar, Salazon’s mission has been to offer a healthier alternative to conventional candy bars, and with the new line, we’ve taken this mission one step further by increasing the cocoa content. WebMD reports that dairy-free dark chocolate, like Salazon, contains potent antioxidants and flavonoids that work in tandem to reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering blood pressure and LDL cholesterol. Meanwhile, new research published in The Journal of Nutrition has revealed that flavonoids may even help protect against type 2 diabetes. More recently, researchers at LSU have discovered that dark chocolate releases anti-inflammatory compounds that benefit the heart. Dark chocolate is also a proven energy and mood booster. Pair this with the replenishing effects of sodium and potassium electrolytes contained in Salazon and it’s easy to see that these bars make the perfect trail snack.
